History of the Nautical Mile

The Nautical Mile started in August of 2003 as a 12 page free handbook for Lee County boaters with a circulation of 250 per month. During the first 2 years it grew into a 40 page free nautical paper. Thousands are printed monthly and our EOM recycle pick-up ratio is less that 5% monthly. The Mile is now distributed in dozens of local locations and available 365 days a year. We have about 20 local staff writers, and a few from other parts of the country. Our monthly content covers local fishing and boating activities, upcoming events, fishing guides, local marine seminars, fishing tournaments, bait & tackle shops, detailed maps of boat ramp locations, fuel and waterfront restaurants, boat rentals, fishing regulations, local fishing guides, GPS numbers to dozens of artificial reefs and shipwrecks and saltwater fish identification.

We’ve had to change formats 4 times to accommodate growth and our customer renewals hold at less than 10% yearly.

Our greatest features are the monthly content and public availability.
