A local yacht club did a series of marine seminars in 2006 and 2007 and used the Mile as their main marketing source, almost 100 people showed up. In 2008 they had new staff that didn’t know about our paper and used the cover of our local newspaper instead of us to promote the seminars, only 7 people showed up. One of our writers, the Snook Cowboy, arranged a seminar at Boater’s World who put 6 seats out, their usual attendance. The only promotion was through us and over 50 people showed up. Why the Nautical Mile? Because it’s what local mariners use to find things.

2008 was the toughest year that local marine businesses have ever experienced. They were raised so high by a booming economy and then dropped on their heads. One of the first things to be removed from a budget is advertising, yet we didn’t loose one customer. Actually, we gained several new ones. There’s a reason for it!
